I Tried 10 Pumpkin Lattes in Oceanside

Ten shops, ten pumpkin lattes, one day. Here is how they ranked, with a quick verdict on each drink. Two more shops only had pumpkin chai, so they're listed separately at the end.

  1. Bound Coffee Company

    The highlight of the day. Pumpkin and spice both come through and neither overpowers. Their house-made sourdough bagels are next on my list.

  2. Vigilante Coffee

    Best-balanced flavor, with hints of pumpkin and spice. Plenty of room to work, with outlets at some tables.

  3. Camp Coffee Company

    Finally a good one. I ordered it half sweet and could taste the coffee, the pumpkin and the spice. Small shop, so seating is limited.

    A delicious latte in a great spot for working, though it could have been any flavor.

    The only one I didn't need half sweet. Pumpkin-forward and the espresso still shows, though the syrup could use more complexity.

    A fine latte made with white chocolate, brown sugar and pumpkin puree, but I couldn't taste the pumpkin. Great beach vibes, and the breakfast sandwich was really good.

  7. High Tide Coffee Oceanside

    The latte was on the thin side, but the cold foam and topping were great. Lots of outdoor seating, good for a chat.

  8. Revolution Roasters

    Not very pumpkin-forward and I noticed an odd aftertaste. A miss this time, since other drinks here have been better.

  9. Banana Dang Coffee

    The most cinnamon of the day, with a squash note more than pumpkin. The shop is full of local art and the drink was just okay.

  10. Captain's Grounds Coffee

    I couldn't taste the syrup and the espresso ran bitter. There's a thrift store inside, which is a fun bonus.

  • Brown Cup Cafe & Catering

    A dirty chai rather than a latte, so it's not ranked. The cold foam is very sweet and the espresso gets lost. More of a cafe than a third-wave coffee shop.

  • Pannikin Coffee & Tea

    A chai rather than a latte, so it's not ranked. Thin and too sweet for me, but there's loads of indoor and outdoor seating, and they gave me a free sticker.
